The time has never been better to set firm boundaries with the US Federal government overreach, corruption and mismanagement. Empowering state, Tribal and local authorities is a foundation of environmental policy in New Mexico.
One example is contained within recent letter regarding NuFuels Inc. Crownpoint Uranium Project In-Situ Recovery Facility License Renewal Application.
from the NMED to the NRC, dated July 21, 2026:

Accordingly, the Church Rock Section 8 ISR Project must obtain an NMED discharge permit before ISR operations may commence.
With people power and the resources of a robust state government within New Mexico we can protect the ecosystems that the federal government has been mismanaging and ready to abandon. It is crucial that no more land or natural resources fall in to the hands of private corporate entities. New Mexico is also in a prime position to set a precedent for other states as we push back against the abuses of unchecked power and corruption.
Mining, weapons production, data centers, increased surveillance, water rights, ICE overreach, climate change, and health care all intersect at the point of strengthening our local communities. We do not need the federal government, they need us. We hold the power and it’s time all of us unite with our individual experiences and skills together against total destruction.
